Sketchbooking with Jackie - MON @G1

to 2 Dec

Sketchbooking with Jackie - MON @G1

A brand new short course at Globe Arts Studio with Jackie!

Runs Monday 18th November, Monday 25th November and Monday 2nd December 1-3pm.

Receive a free Pink Pig sketchbook when you book all 3 weeks together

Sketchbooking – lets grow your confidence!

Ever felt afraid of the blank page? Don’t know where to start? Lets free you up and grow your confidence!

Artists use sketchbooks as part of their ongoing practice. They use them as reference and to problem solve for larger, more refined pieces of work and to quickly record ideas in the moment. It’s likely you’ll find a sketchbook in the back pocket or bag of any decent creative!

However, don’t be thinking that a sketchbook is reserved for those making a living out of creating art! Keeping a sketchbook is something all of us can enjoy and is arguably the single most important, accessible, personal form of expression. Each blank page is an opportunity – it’s a place to record a daily experience, share an idea or reflect an emotion. Together we will conquer fears of ‘the blank page’ and ‘where do I start’.

We will

  • explore a range of different starting points including drawing from life, using photography and referencing the work of other artists and crafts people

  • discover different drawing and painting techniques, both conventional and non conventional

  • use a variety of wet and dry media such as charcoal, graphite, ink, acrylic paint, watercolour, gouache, soft pastel, oil pastel, and collage media

  • work with different tools and equipment, including making our own, to discover ways of recording in a sketchbook

  • help you find your voice, so that your sketchbook is unmistakably yours

This is a fast moving course designed to kickstart your creative sketchbook journey!

Do evenings work better for you? Join Jackie Monday evenings 6-8pm

Birds & Bees Jewellery workshop w. Frances Noon

Make a bird or bee pendant this Spring!

WHO: Frances will be your tutor for the day, this workshop is perfect for all abilities; absolute beginners, intermediate or advanced- everyone can achieve a great result in this full day workshop.

WHAT: Birds & bees jewellery workshop, using Pebeo porcelain paint

Learn how to make a pendant or a brooch in metal and then add colour to the surface using pebeo porcelain paints.

On this one day course participants will form a pendant and/or a brooch from sheet metal. This will be hand painted using the pebeo porcelain paint. There is the possibility within the one day course to make a pendant and a brooch piece.

You will first cut out your design from brass sheet metal, using a piercing saw, snips and then filing the edges down so they are smooth. Add details such as eyes and beak definition onto the surface using hammer and punch. This would likely be kept to the minimum, but additional details such as legs can be added in wire and soldered to the piece.

Finally you will use the pebeo porcelain 150 paints to add colour to the surface of your design. As these paints need a 24 hr time period to dry before they are baked in an oven, participants will have to leave their pieces with us for firing.

For pendants you will put together a brass effect chain to the length of your choice. And a brooch back will be glued to any brooches before work is returned via post (+ £3pp) or collected from the studio the following Monday onwards.

WHERE: New Street, Globe 1

WHEN: Saturday 5th May, 10-5pm

WHY: It has tremendous known benefits for your hand-eye coordination, visual perception, and memory. Jewelry making keeps your brain active and fine tunes your motor skills through the grasping of tools and materials, understanding new processes and terms. Crafting contributes greatly to improved self-esteem!

HOW MUCH: £70pp or bring a friend and get 2 tickets for £130 (£65pp)

“Make Your Own Slippers” Workshop - 16/11/24 @G1

Join Catherine Edwards here at Globe Arts Studio for a full day 6 hour workshop, using traditional techniques to hand craft your own pair of slippers.

Catherine Edwards trained as a boot and shoemaker, working for many years before a residency at the royal armouries, which led to the production of her first collection of unique leather goods.

With Cathys guidance, you will learn how to cut your own patterns to the size you require and use them to trace onto top grade unwaxed leather, cutting out and marking up for stitching.

We will use the traditional Saddlers’ two handed sewing technique to stitch your slippers together and add a small heel. With your finished slippers as a size guide, create your own envelope style storage bag using super soft suede and attach a hand rolled leather toggle to fasten.

The making process is completed entirely by hand using genuine leatherworking tools including vintage and antique pieces from Cathys own collection.

This workshop is suitable for all ages and abilities, covering a range of skills, with tools and materials provided, techniques include cutting to pattern, hand stitching, and colour matching fabrics for upper and outer pieces.

Working in a small, friendly group with lots of individual attention, supervised individually by Catherine, This inspiring one-day workshop is a great way to introduce yourself to working with leather. Places limited so please book quickly!

Bring a friend for discounted ticket, £90pp or 2 for £170.

When you book a place, please email us at info@globearts.org.uk with your colour choice from the selection below , plus your shoe size, Cathy needs to prep your materials before the workshop

Autumn Life Drawing with Jo Blaker - 20/10/24 @G1

Join Jo Blaker at Globe Arts Studio for her one-off
Autumn Seasonal Life Drawing workshop.

This workshop is an opportunity to explore how a seasonal focus might inspire, extend, deepen or enrich our life drawing experience.

If regular life drawing classes don’t feel right for you, you might enjoy the freedom to experiment that previous participants tell us they especially enjoy about this class.

Artist Jo Blaker will get you drawing with a range of materials, trying new ideas & exploring your interpretation of the season.

This session starts with an hour of drawing from seasonal objects or sources. Our model arrives at 11am when we transition to drawing the figure. We usually explore short, quick exploratory exercises initially.

Collaborative exercises have been especially popular so weave these in to as many sessions as we can. Expect playful, exciting drawing challenges that take you out of your comfort zone & take your work in unexpected directions.

The length of this session ensures time to share & discuss our work and that we can take breaks where we need them and let ourselves really sink into the experience and savour it.

The focus of this session is upon stimulating our creativity & expression as artists, responding to a range of stimuli as well as the human figure. Each artist has freedom within our exercises to make them their own - through choice of process, material, scale etc.

We hope in this session to get people started and for the artists in the room to take that in their own direction.

Please note - this class does not include teaching on proportion, measuring or other formal aspects of life drawing.

£80 - includes tuition, materials an refreshments

Meet the tutor

Jane illustrates empowered women, focusing on the celebration of the female form and the growth, change and healing we experience as we live our lives and grow. Her curvaceous figures represent perfectly imperfect versions of women. Some of her pieces are inspired by Folk art stylisation.

Jane also uses local landscapes and outdoor experiences as inspiration for her illustration. These landscape pieces are an emphasis of the significance of the great outdoors, fresh air, exploration and its positive impact on our well being.

Jane uses an array of materials however, her preferred medium is inks combined with bleach as its alchemy is a therapeutic practice. She also makes marks using various mixed media to create collage pieces and is developing her printmaking skills by experimenting with collagraph, mono printing and intaglio techniques. She works digitally too.

‘Tattoo Your Stuff’ - Introduction to Custom Culture @G1

‘Tattoo your stuff’ with Patia as you learn about custom culture!

Saturday, 21 September '24   10am – 4pm

“Fuelled by the thrill of the uncharted road ahead, my mission is to forge a deep connection between you and your most treasured stuff.

Whether you're an automotive enthusiast, a discerning art collector or simply someone who values craftsmanship, quality and originality, there's a variety of ways for us to collaborate.

Like bringing your vision to life through a custom project, immersing yourself in the custom culture through my original workshops, or finding that perfect piece to enrich your space.”

Express yourself by customising your own objects - this could be a motorcycle helmet, jacket, skateboard, or painting murals at scale.

You will be introduced to enamel paints and sign painting techniques to transfer and hand paint rad "tattoos" on your desired object.

  • We kick off with a warm up session before painting on any objects. This time is for making mistakes, getting used to enamels and understanding where you are at with your skills. (And you will probably surprise yourself by being better at this than you think!)

  • You will be given coated MDF boards along with all other needed materials to practise transferring designs and filling in each layer with a brush and finishing off with crispy outlines.

  • If you want to give it a go on your own object, please bring it with you. Bear in mind that depending on the surface and shape it might be more advanced, but Patia will be happy to explain it to you. (*objects no bigger than a helmet, if you are unsure, please get in touch with Patia (patia@patia.co.uk) directly, *material – enamels work on anything apart from textiles)

MEET PATIA

Patia

“As a non-conformist artist and a rebellious female motorcyclist, I create one-of-a-kind artworks that reflect adventurous spirit, self-discovery, and empowerment to live authentically.

I believe deeply in the profound impact our surroundings have on our well-being and identity, shaping the very fabric of our daily lives. By embracing and expressing your truest self, you not only enrich your own existence but also inspire others to do the same.”

Work with Patia to express yourself through your favourite objects by customising them in a way that reflects you.
