View captured feelings from David Coldwell, in his new exhibition over at Zapato Taproom, running until 22nd February 2025.
I am a painter, writer and photographer based in West Yorkshire. My paintings and photographs have featured in a number of publications. I have published two books and co-edited two poetry collections. My paintings have been exhibited widely across the UK and are held in private collections.
Developing new skills and exploring different techniques has continued to enhance my expertise both as a painter and photographer.
I now work from a studio in the centre of Slaithwaite – a thriving village which you can find midway between Leeds and Manchester.
The painting process:
It may be memory or a ghost.
The desire is to capture a feeling, focusing on composition with a limited colour palette. Soon the painting will enter the experimental stage. This part of the process is like the wind: unpredictable, challenging. Sometimes the destination becomes unclear. Colours are mixed with glazes to create texture, depth and atmosphere. The trick is knowing when you have reached the destination.
