Natural Dye Course w. Kayleigh Davis

Join Kayleigh of ocre natural dye studio for this brand new natural dye course to be delivered here at Globe Arts - over the course of the growing season.

The sessions will be accessible and suitable for participants to come to as many as they feel without the obligation of coming to every session.

The sessions will follow the growing schedule of seasonally available plants.

Each session lasts 3 hours on Thursday evenings which will cover all there is to know about growing, foraging and dyeing with plant-based pigments.

The course contents will be broken down as follows:

 ·      13th June: Preparing fabrics for natural dyeing

A hands-on introduction to creating successful prints. Natural dyes will not work without correctly prepared fabrics. This session will cover selecting fabrics, scouring and mordanting.

·      27th June : Growing natural dyes

Natural dyes can be grown at home! Learn about planning and growing a dye garden with a session at Globe Arts. Learn which plants will be suitable, growing schedules, and how to harvest, dry and store dyes for year-round use. This session will involve drawing dye plants as we design our own dye gardens using mixed materials. You will also be given a helpful garden planning sheet to take home.

 ·      4th July : Bundle Dyeing and Hapa Zome

Create your own designs on fabric by learning the popular technique of bundle dyeing. Learn how to steam plants into cloth to create beautiful pieces. Whilst the bundles are in the pot, we will explore Hapa Zome – the art of hammering plants into cloth. Learn which plants are suitable and top tips to create crisp prints.

 ·      11th July : Foraging for natural dyes

Explore found natural dyes on a relaxing foraging walk around Globe’s surrounding green areas. Learn which local plants are safe to forage and how to do so responsibly to create beautiful textiles. We will then create a dye bath using foraged dyes.

 ·      18th July : Upcycle your wardrobe

This sustainable session encourages people to bring something made of white cotton or silk, e.g. a t-shirt, shorts, or a pillowcase. They will learn how to scour, mordant and dye their item using natural dyes to breathe new life into it!

‘Tattoo Your Stuff’ - Introduction to Custom Culture

‘Tattoo your stuff’ with Patia as you learn about custom culture!

“Fuelled by the thrill of the uncharted road ahead, my mission is to forge a deep connection between you and your most treasured stuff.

Whether you're an automotive enthusiast, a discerning art collector or simply someone who values craftsmanship, quality and originality, there's a variety of ways for us to collaborate.

Like bringing your vision to life through a custom project, immersing yourself in the custom culture through my original workshops, or finding that perfect piece to enrich your space.”

Express yourself by customising your own objects - this could be a motorcycle helmet, jacket, skateboard, or painting murals at scale.

You will be introduced to enamel paints and sign painting techniques to transfer and hand paint rad "tattoos" on your desired object.

  • We kick off with a warm up session before painting on any objects. This time is for making mistakes, getting used to enamels and understanding where you are at with your skills. (And you will probably surprise yourself by being better at this than you think!)

  • You will be given coated MDF boards along with all other needed materials to practise transferring designs and filling in each layer with a brush and finishing off with crispy outlines.

  • If you want to give it a go on your own object, please bring it with you. Bear in mind that depending on the surface and shape it might be more advanced, but Patia will be happy to explain it to you. (*objects no bigger than a helmet, if you are unsure, please get in touch with Patia (patia@patia.co.uk) directly, *material – enamels work on anything apart from textiles)

MEET PATIA

Patia

“As a non-conformist artist and a rebellious female motorcyclist, I create one-of-a-kind artworks that reflect adventurous spirit, self-discovery, and empowerment to live authentically.

I believe deeply in the profound impact our surroundings have on our well-being and identity, shaping the very fabric of our daily lives. By embracing and expressing your truest self, you not only enrich your own existence but also inspire others to do the same.”

Work with Patia to express yourself through your favourite objects by customising them in a way that reflects you.

Jane also uses local landscapes and outdoor experiences as inspiration for her illustration. These landscape pieces are an emphasis of the significance of the great outdoors, fresh air, exploration and its positive impact on our well being.

Jane uses an array of materials however, her preferred medium is inks combined with bleach as its alchemy is a therapeutic practice. She also makes marks using various mixed media to create collage pieces and is developing her printmaking skills by experimenting with collagraph, mono printing and intaglio techniques. She works digitally too.

Autumn Life Drawing w. Jo Blaker

Join Jo Blaker at Globe Arts Studio for her one-off
Autumn Seasonal Life Drawing workshop.

This workshop is an opportunity to explore how a seasonal focus might inspire, extend, deepen or enrich our life drawing experience.

If regular life drawing classes don’t feel right for you, you might enjoy the freedom to experiment that previous participants tell us they especially enjoy about this class.

Artist Jo Blaker will get you drawing with a range of materials, trying new ideas & exploring your interpretation of the season.

This session starts with an hour of drawing from seasonal objects or sources. Our model arrives at 11am when we transition to drawing the figure. We usually explore short, quick exploratory exercises initially.

Collaborative exercises have been especially popular so weave these in to as many sessions as we can. Expect playful, exciting drawing challenges that take you out of your comfort zone & take your work in unexpected directions.

The length of this session ensures time to share & discuss our work and that we can take breaks where we need them and let ourselves really sink into the experience and savour it.

The focus of this session is upon stimulating our creativity & expression as artists, responding to a range of stimuli as well as the human figure. Each artist has freedom within our exercises to make them their own - through choice of process, material, scale etc.

We hope in this session to get people started and for the artists in the room to take that in their own direction.

Please note - this class does not include teaching on proportion, measuring or other formal aspects of life drawing.

£80 - includes tuition, materials an refreshments

Join Byron & Holly for this brand-new 2 part workshop!

Week 1 (Thursday 31st Oct) - Jesmonite Candle holder - The workshop will involve creating coloured jesmonite terrazzo chips, mixing the chips into a jesmonite mixture and putting this into a silicone mould, then sanding down the pots to reveal the terrazzo chips.

(there wont be much dust produced, but if you wish to buy a FFP3 mask from us, they are £1.50 each/ £5 in a lined pouch)

Week 2 (Thursday 7th Nov) - Aromatherapy Melt and Pour Candles - Learn how to make your own melt and pour aromatherapy candle with Byron, using your Terrazzo pot from week 1 as the candle container.

We'll explore aromatherapy and how to blend essential oils to create a personalised scent. Candles will be soy wax based and different dyes to add a bit of colour.

About Holly: “I've been working with resin for 4 years. I started out making jewellery and home ornaments with resin and crystals. Over the last 2 years, I've been creating home decor products with jesmonite (a more eco-friendly resin). I've recently started venturing into making my own moulds, so that I can create completely unique, one-off products. I like to think of this type of home decor as functional artwork - my pieces are useful and have a purpose, but are also beautiful and unique. A lot of my work fits into the current trend of dopamine decor - homeware that brightens up the home and sparks joy.”

Perfect to display at home, or gift to a friend!

After the candle has been used, this terrazzo pot can be washed and re-purposed as a pen pot of toothbrush holder!

Winter Seasonal life drawing day w. Jo Blaker

Join Jo Blaker at Globe Arts Studio for her one-off Winter Seasonal Life Drawing workshop.

This workshop is an opportunity to explore how a seasonal focus might inspire, extend, deepen or enrich our life drawing experience. If regular life drawing classes don’t feel right for you, you might enjoy the freedom to experiment that previous participants tell us they especially enjoy about this class. Artist Jo Blaker will get you drawing with a range of materials, trying new ideas & exploring your interpretation of the season, through your drawings.

This Winter themed session will be a celebration of the textures, forms & goings on in the wild as Autumn becomes a memory & Spring waits for us around the corner. Expect playful, exciting drawing challenges that take you out of your comfort zone & take your work in unexpected directions. You are welcome to draw in ways that are abstract or whimsical, technical or totally intuitive - all styles welcome!

Beautiful work produced from Jo’s previous Seasonal Life Drawing workshop
